seiner Protagonisten.
teil (Katalog).

In her new works Christine Weber shows images taken from the world of sports,
concentrating on the phenomenon of the compaction of it’s protagonists.
Her series heaps presents collectivejubilation of football players after
the goalshot and in her other series neck-and-neck crowds of camels and
their riders during the race.
The piles of jubilant players displayed against the backround of advertising
panels on the sidelines of the pitch, appear sculptural. Only the moirée structures,
taken from television stills give the paintings a certain dynamic. They seem to have absorbed the spectators in a swirl.
Her series neck-and-neck puts the dynamics of the camel race into the centre.
The riders and their animals are portrayed in their movements, contrasting
with the flatness of the sky and the desert sand. Unpainted parts on the canvas
and the disolving figures create a mirage effect in her paintings, thus pointing
to the process of the production of images and their artificiality. Both series
refer to sports as a commercialized medium for exitement, a focal point for
individual and collective emotions and suspense. The exhibition heaps reflects
on the conglomerate of media images in sports by starting a process of desintegrating
these images. Consequently Christine Weber constructs a new horizon from which these
images can be reinterpreted by the viewer.
