Also due to the assistance of the artists themselves, the ideas of individuality, creativity
and innovative ability have long transcended the boundaries of art and are integral
parts of today's corporate philosophy. The principles of self-marketing and
self-management are it's central characteristics. The former genuine qualities
attributed to an artist such as talent for improvisation, the ability to transform
one’s self and to work under pressure have become central elements of the socially
accepted ideal of self-fulfilment. But which significance has collective political
and collective artistic action in this cobtext today?
In the exhibition ABC-Attack by
Combination ABEL Neue Kunst presents works by the artist’s Bella Angora, Ingo Gerken
and the artist’s groups G.R.A.M and BERWEGUNG NURR which deal with the conflicting
fields of politics and art. On the backdrop of the fortieth anniversary of the revolts
of 1968 the participating artist’s reflect the theme of political-artistic action and
protest: What forms of political protest are appropiate today and how do artists relate
to politics under the production mode and the competitive conditions of the art market?
